At the Top of the Mountain
The Adventures of Will Ryan and the Civilian Conservation Corps 1936-38, Book III
by Judith Edwards

At the Top of the Mountain: The Adventures of Will Ryan and the Civilian Conservation Corps, 1936-38 completes a three book series for middle school readers based on the author's fascinating research, familiarity with the region, and fictional cast of characters.

The adventures of Will and his CCC friends include floods, rescues, and a fire, along with plenty of fun. Will also participates in the traditional tasks of rural Vermont Ð planting crops and helping neighbors Ð and new pleasures and pastimes such as movies and dances. By the end of the story, after years of hard work and danger, the boys of CCC Camp 129 have reached the top of the mountain. As the corpsmen celebrate the completion of the summit road and prepare to move to another CCC camp, Will Ryan and his best friend Carrie ponder what the future may hold after their upcoming last year of High School.
